Children's Defense Fund Urges House Members To Protect Children, Not Guns
WASHINGTON - June 17 - The Children's Defense Fund (CDF) today urged Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to pass legislation at least as strong as the Senate passed gun safety bill. "Nearly 13 children die every day in America as a result of gun violence. It is time to protect children, not guns," said Children's Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman.

The Children's Defense Fund supports amendments that would reduce gun violence that destroys the lives of so many children, closes current loopholes in our gun safety laws, and opposes amendments that would weaken current law gun protections.

"The leadership bill, H.R. 2122, is not only weaker than the Senate bill, but it is weaker than current law. In addition, a number of amendments that will be offered today, led first by the Dingell amendment, would create even larger loopholes in current law. This legislation is the NRA's dream and every parent's nightmare. It is time for Congress to take action and protect children's lives."
