Senate Debates Judicial Nominees, Women's Civil Rights Hang in the Balance
WASHINGTON - March 13 - Following is a statement by Gloria Feldt, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Author of Behind Every Choice Is a Story:

"The Senate's passage of an unconstitutional assault on women's reproductive rights highlights the importance of today's debate on judicial nominees, including Miguel Estrada and Judge Priscilla Owen. When Congress passes laws that attack our fundamental civil rights, women turn to the federal courts for justice.

"That's why the Senate must reject Miguel Estrada, Priscilla Owen and any nominee who does not affirm women's human and civil rights to reproductive self-determination. The threat an anti-choice judiciary poses to women's lives demands nothing less."

Planned Parenthood Federation of America is the nation's largest and most trusted voluntary reproductive health care organization. Planned Parenthood affiliates serve nearly five million women, men and teenagers every year.
