Planned Parenthood Optimistic Iowa Supreme Court Will Uphold Women's Right to Medical Privacy, Restore Confidence in Health Care Privacy

NEW YORK - August 6 - The following statement was released today by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

We are pleased the Iowa Supreme Court stayed the requirement that Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa produce the medical records of hundreds of women while it reviews the matter further. Wholesale release of these medical records would not only violate Americans' sacred trust in medical privacy, but will -- as we are already seeing happen at the affected clinic in Iowa -- deter women from seeking necessary medical care.

We're confident that upon review, the Court will recognize this egregious violation of women's right to medical privacy and will act to protect that right.
