Florida to Host National Conference of LGBT State Activist (MiamiAug 1-4)
MIAMI  - July 19 -

Who: The Federation of Statewide Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT)Advocacy Organizations

What: Annual Summer Meeting

Where: Miami (South Beach)

When: August 1-4, 2002

Why: The Summer Meeting draws activist from across the country for four days of training and strategizing.

The Federation is a network of autonomous state/territory organizations committed to working with each other and with national and local groups to strengthen statewide LGBT advocacy organizing and to secure full civil rights in every U.S. state and territory.

The meeting in Miami Beach comes as the attacks and advances at the state and local level continue to increase dramatically. More than 300 LGBT-related bills addressing civil rights, domestic partnerships and safe schools were introduced in state capitals across the country; 195 favorable and 113 unfavorable.

The Summer meeting is hosted by a different state each year and participants look for opportunities to assist local efforts to promote fairness and equality. Federation members plan to help efforts to protect Miami¹s human rights ordinance.

Miami has drawn national attention as community organizers push to keep "sexual orientation" in the Miami-Dade non-discrimination ordinance despite a repeal effort on the ballot Sept 10.
